Push Email dan Juga GPS

Seperti a seri handset BlackBerry yang sudah beredar di Tanah Air, BlackBerry seri 8800 juga ditawarkan dalam program bundling oleh operator Indosat. Dari desain, BlackBerry 8800 tak mengalami perbedaan signifikan dari seri-seri sebelumnya. Ciri khas konsol bisa dilihat dari keberadaan QWERTY keyboard.

TAMPILAN
Pada sisi badan konsol terdapat shortcut untuk voice dialing, diatasnya untuk USB data/charging, slot headset 3.5 mm dan tombol pengatur volume. Lubang buzzer untuk nada dering dan musik terdapat di bagian atas konsol. Meski tak mengusung konsep hot swap, untuk memasang dan melepas kartu Micro SD tidak perlu melepas baterai, seperti pada BlackBerry 8300. Untuk pasang dan lepas Micro SD hanya cukup dengan membuka cover belakang.

KEYPAD
Jajaran tombolnya terlihat cukup unik. Tombol angka 1 sampai 9 untuk telepon ditempatkan pada posisi pinggir, hal ini tentu lebih memudahkan bagi orang yang aktif dengan tangan kanan (tidak kidal). Beda dengan konsep QWERTY keyboard pada Nokia E61i, yang menempatkan tombol telepon di di posisi tengah.

TOMBOL NAVIGASI
Navigasi menjadi elemen khas BlackBerry, pada seri 8800 banyak dipercayakan pada trackball. Alat navigasi ini berupa bola yang mengatur pergerakan antar menu, selain terdapat dua tombol softkey. Di saat browsing internet, trackball menjadi satu-satunya alat navigasi. Karena tak dibekali fasilitas kamera, ikon instrumen jadi tampak lebih sederhana.

CHATTING
Chatting menjadi keunggulan tersendiri pada BlackBerry. Ada tiga jenis moda chatting, Yahoo messanger (YM), Google Talk dan BlackBerry messanger. Untuk YM menu yang tersedia bisa dikatakan lebih lengkap dan atraktif ketimbang versi YM di komputer. Menu yang tersedia seperti ’sign in automatically, ignore user, create new group, my status (dengan display foto), edit my nickname dan my contact details. Bila ada daftar kontak yang terlihat acak-acakan, terdapat fungsi untuk mengedit kontak dari daftar grup. Ditambah lagi, bila menerima buzz, YM bisa disiapkan identifikasi berupa getaran dan light.

EMAIL
Dalam satu konsol, BlackBerry 8800 dapat menampung 10 account email personal. Tapi sebelumnya pengguna diharuskan untuk membuat account baru di www.indosat.blackberry.com. Langkah selanjutnya bisa ditambahkan account personal untuk di integrasikan dalam konsep push mail, diantaranya seperti Yahoo Mail, GMail dan lain sebagainya. Beberapa account email bisa digabungkan dalam satu inbox. Menerima dan membalas email bisa semudah ber-SMS, semua aplikasi email dapat mendukung attachment file.

INTERNET
BlackBerry 8800 tidak dibekali akses internet 3G. Tapi dalam uji coba koneksi internet lewat GPRS terbukti sangat baik. Kemampuan browser terdiri dari fungsi menu ’go to, history, edit bookmark, copy bookmark dan send bookmark lewat SMS. Selain GPRS, BlackBerry 8800 mendukung pula akses EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution). Sedikit disayangkan, visual halaman web tidak bisa menampilkan format xHTML.

MUSIK
Walau disiapkan sebagai konsol para pebisnis, unsur hiburan tak luput dari perhatian. Fitur pemutar musik bisa mendukung format MP3 dengan menu replay, repeat, play all, play folder dan receive using bluetooth. Sedangkan untuk pemutar video, bisa mendukung format 3GPP dan MPEG4. Fungsi musik tak lepas dari dukungan ketersediaan memori internal 64 MB dan kartu memori eksternal Micro SD.

GPS
Fungsi GPS diwujudkan dalam pola maping. Terdiri dari menu tracking and serching for satelit. Untuk menambah jelas visualisasi, ikon map dibekali dengan zoom, tanda panah arah utara, directions, send dan copy locations. Sebelum bisa menggunakan GPS map, terlebih dahulu harus mengaktifkan fitur i-gps. Fitur ini bisa diaktifkan setelah Anda melakukan persetujuan tentang pembayaran paket fasilitas GPS. Untuk memudahkan pengoperasian, tersedia pula menu i-gps simulation.

I-GO
Indosat membungkus semua fitur VAS (value added services) dalam menu i-go. Fitur ini berisi berbagai macam konten yang berbasis internet seperti Hot promo, i-ring, 3.5G, info, repligo, download, messaging, my backup, features, i-stock dan help. Fitur-fitur ini serupa dengan yang ada di portal Indosat.

MANAGE CONNECTIONS
Menu ini dapat mengatur aktivasi beberapa koneksi data, seperti GSM dan bluetooth. Pada saat starting menu, manage connection diperlukan untuk membuka akses voice dan data.

BATERAI
Bertenaga lithium ion 1400 mAh.
Versi vendor menyebut BlackBerry 8800 punya waktu siaga 528 jam dan waktu bicara 5 jam. Rasanya performa tersebut akan sulit dicapai, kecuali peranti tak digunakan untuk macam aktifitas (hanya standby). Dalam uji coba baterai akan cepat terkuras saat melakukan browsing internet.

KINERJA
BlackBerry 8800 cukup powerfull untuk mendukung fungsi email, selain terdapat aplikasi dasar seperti SMS dan MMS. Kontur keypad dibuat cukup nyaman, meski di rancang dengan desain tidak rata, kemungkinan untuk mencegah licin di jemari tangan. Pancaran suara dari buzzer juga cukup jernih. Dalam pengoperasian yang panjang, khususnya untuk browsing menu internet, trackball navigation cukup terasa melelahkan jempol.
